A wonderfully detailed shibuichi tsuba with shakudo, gold and silver zogan. Features design of a flowering Kouhone Plant (Nuphar Japonica). Mumei. Late Edo period. I have no idea where this fits, however it is a nice piece.

The Kouhone (or Nuphar Japonica) is a water-based plant of the Nymphaeaceae family. It is typically found in ponds in Japan and the Korean Peninsula. It features beautiful yellow flowers from May to October. The kouhone plant is utilised as a medicinal herb and can be used as a digestive or to treat women before and after childbirth.
